Zoe Friend

Zoe Shepherd Friend is a maximalist assemblage sculptor living and working in Boston MA at the SoWa artists complex. Since she grew up amid Victorian architecture and was heavily influenced by Natural History museums, Friend's works are driven by a great love for baroque ornamentation as well as the natural world. The main idea behind her works lies in raising awareness regarding plastic pollutants and compulsive consumerism. And although Friend’s oeuvre, inspired by her own compulsive habits, is intended to reflect her personal experiences, she turns her lens inward to share the reflection of anxiety and guilt that daily hunts the conscience of the modern age human.

War
War aims to fill the viewer with the sense of theatrics, wonder, and subtle ghoulish-guilt of nature consumption in the name of ease, entertainment, and thoughtlessness. The work operates through a simultaneous balance and tension of subject matter against material choices.
