DaeQuan Collier
DaeQuan Collier is a Boston-based artist whose work deals with questions of racial prejudices and stereotypes. He graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and is currently working on MFA at Emerson College majoring in screenwriting for Film and Television.
 
Inspired by his identity and place in the world, Collier strives to create multi-­faceted and multi-dimensional work that illustrates the realities of contemporary society. Growing up in the Bronx, he met a number of underrepresented people and communities that now have a significant influence on his oeuvre. Collier’s works narrate complex, yet beautiful and vital stories mainly concerned with the theme of identity.

What If Black Boys Were Butterflies?
What If Black Boys Were Butterflies? is an experimental short film centered around an intimate, off-screen conversation between two Black men about the essence of Black boyhood. The film aims to capture the complexities of Black adolescence as well as familiarize viewers with the contemporary realities. For the artist, this piece is about the central need of young Black men in America – freedom.
